Why do architects build models? The obvious answer is to show what a building will look like. But that’s not the real reason.
Working in 3D lets us test the tricky parts—the junctions, the interfaces, the things 2D drawings can gloss over. A model forces honesty. You can’t fudge a roof that doesn’t meet or a floor level that mysteriously floats. In 3D, the oddities surface fast, and we fix them before they ever make it to site.
Here’s an example: the white massing model—cardboard, digital, it doesn’t matter—reveals how the forms behave. From there, we build up materials, and finally a visualiser brings the whole thing to life.
In our case, that visualiser is the brilliant Hexagon (Adam Whalley), who can breathe life into any design.
That’s why we create visuals. They’re far more than just pretty pictures. #BeforeAndAfterDesign • #ConceptVisualisation • #HistoricArchitecture • #ExtendingListedBuildings @hexagonvisuals
