Creation of space – this project involved the removal of a bay which made the space difficult to use and site furniture within. The inclusion of bifold windows brings in light and gives the opportunity for using the garden with ease. The island unit is a point of multifunction – and the furniture can be sited logically in the space. The task was to make the best use of the ground floor – relocating utility, utilising garage as dining space and relocating an oddly positioned WC – added to which the x3 storey needed fire rated escape route to exit. But it works well. Alrewas architecture have worked on a number of projects requiring specific fire rated escape methods when the storey height is 3 or more. Fire is a key consideration under the building regulations, and there will be no compromise on ensuring safety for the occupant.
